Sun and moon move among the stars along a belt, and they do not go beyond a certain width on either side of the central line of motion. All the planets confine their lateral movements to this belt. This belt is known as the Zodiac.
The Zodiac is circular in shape, and the circumference of the Zodiacal belt contains 360 degrees; consequently each house or sign contains thirty degrees. The twelve equal parts, called signs of the Zodiac, are represented, by imaginary figures, and they affect the body, the character, the disposition and the mental and moral attributes, as well as possibilities for success or failure of a human being. The twelve signs, which are also called houses, describe the environment and circumstances, the possibilities and limitations of every phase of destiny with which each individual is confronted in his voyage through life!
The houses of the Zodiac are represented by the chart in a horoscope. In order to determine the importance and strength of any particular house, it is necessary to examine, first, the lord of that house and his aspects. Secondly, any planets that may be present in that house, and their aspects. Thirdly, and of the greatest importance, is to examine whether the nature of the sign is itself sympathetic to that of the house. In the Hindu system of Astrology, the chart is in the form of square of oblong whereas in the Western system the chart is drawn in the form of a circle.
